Macquarie Exchange Fair
Friday April 13th at 10am – 3pm
Wally’s Walk (outside Muse)
Bula, I am Suk Jiang Kan, a student from USP currently on International Student Exchange to Macquarie University, Australia. During the Exchange Fair at the University I was able to promote USP and here is my experience.
During the fair I gave out brochures and answered questions that the students had. There were individual booths for a few partner universities around the world, including USP, as well as a big information booth where the students could line up for any queries they had.
Some of the students that approached me didn’t know about USP, so I shared my experiences at USP with them to get them interested. Additionally, I made some new friends during this time and there were students that had been on an exchange with Macquarie. Listening to their stories allowed me to learn more about the culture from other countries.
My favourite highlight from the exchange fair was that there was free food and gelato. I finally tried chorizo (a type of pork sausage) and got to taste orange and rose flavoured gelato. As it was a hot day, students wanted ice scream, so having the gelato van was a good tactic to get the students to come and learn about the student exchange opportunities. There was a live DJ who kept us dancing on our feet as we shared information.
Of course there was social media promotion in addition to the physical booths and I featured on the Macquarie University Instagram story to promote the exchange fair. I spoke about being from Fiji and talked a bit about my experience on being a current exchange student.
Overall, it was a really fun and great experience.
