The USP International Office dedicates a day each semester for community engagement with their staff, interns and International students. This semester, Semester 1 2017, the team organised the Volunteer Day on Saturday, 20th May whereby they visited the Fiji Society of the Blind school in Vatuwaqa.
The day was spent with the children of the school and the activities included the tour of the Blind school classrooms and student’s dormitories, singing, playing outdoor games, reading stories and playing games. In addition to that the team from USP’s International Office hosted an afternoon tea with the children.
As a result of this visitation, the USP International Students were touched by these children and have requested to visit the Blind School regular.
“It was an eye opening and humbling experience. Seeing the children and how well they interact with others has definitely made me more appreciative and has motivated me to do more to help others”, says Sherri Lodhar, International Student at USP.
All logistics work, including refreshments, approvals, sign ups sheets and the bus (to take the team from USP to the school and brings them back to USP) are coordinated by the USP International Office with the assistance of Ms. Nonu Pesamino (International CR Assistant).
Next Volunteer Day for community engagement will be organized next semester.
